Conservation Outreach – Connecting the zoo to the wild
Modern zoos can be a powerful force for conservation. The Calgary Zoological Society operates the Calgary Zoo in order to provide visitors with the opportunity to make a personal connection with the animals in their care. In their turn, the animals at the Calgary Zoo serve as ambassadors for their wild counterparts helping people make a further connection to the conservation of species in the wild.

In addition, the Calgary Zoological Society operates a Conservation Outreach enterprise to conduct or support conservation initiatives aimed at the protection of species where they exist in the wild. The combination of building public support for conservation through a visit to the Calgary Zoo plus providing direct support for conservation in the wild, makes the Calgary Zoological Society an effective twenty-first century conservation organization.
