Advanced Plant ID

ImageFor those who have successfully completed Woody Plant ID, this course will continue to expand your plant ID skills.  We’ll introduce you to a wide variety of woody plants organized in groups that include Conifers, Ornamentals, Native Plants, Vines, Edibles as well as New and Novel.  A selection of the plants will be covered in detail, similar to our approach in Woody Plant ID.  The remaining will be addressed in a broader way, allowing us to cover more plants and build your repertoire to an even greater degree.  Resources will include photos, the Zoo’s plant collection and herbarium samples.  The goal of this course is not only to broaden your knowledge about woody plants relevant to Calgary gardens, but to provide you with the skills you need to continue your independent learning.

Please note:  A field trip to Bow Point Nursery will be built into the class schedule, on a date that is agreed upon by the class participants.

Prerequisite: Woody Plant ID
